Communications Director

Diller Scofidio + Renfro is a 100-person interdisciplinary design studio based in New York that works across the fields of architecture, visual arts, and the performing arts.

The studio is seeking a Communications Director. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team that is responsible for communicating DS+R’s ethos and portfolio of work, which focuses on civic and cultural works that include some of New York’s most high profile architectural projects – The High Line, Lincoln Center, The Shed, and the Museum of Modern Art, as well as a number of art installations, exhibitions and performance works. Over the next year, the successful candidate will lead the opening of multiple building openings and important milestones for major institutions including MIT, Rice University, and The Broad. This position reports directly to the Partners – Elizabeth Diller, Charles Renfro and Benjamin Gilmartin-and will require reporting to our Chelsea studio in-person to collaborate with the team.

The Communications Director is expected to:

  • Maintain a comprehensive calendar with upcoming press opportunities, editorials, conferences, award submissions, newsletters/reports, special events — coordinated with DS+R projects and their design milestones
  • Liaise with client PR teams to secure optimal coverage and coordinate press efforts.
  • Organize and manage project photography and videography
  • Analyze and report on relevant press in DS+R’s target market areas
  • Field and fulfill press, lecture and exhibition requests and inquiries
  • Track and support firm events and staff engagements including project openings and studio tours
  • Maintain the studio’s contact databases
  • Monitor press coverage and supervise the production of weekly press summaries
  • Supervise the maintenance of studio’s online presence, including the dsrny.com website, YouTube channel, LinkedIn and Instagram
  • Supervise firm and project awards submissions
  • Research and compile top level summaries for speaking engagement requests
  • Compile marketing materials including studio portfolios and in-house presentation materials
  • Maintain internal studio-wide communications including quarterly newsletter

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15+ years professional experience
  • Relevant professional communications or marketing experience (required)
  • Experience in the architecture, engineering or construction industry (required)
  • Interest in the visual and performing arts, design and urbanism
  • Understanding of DS+R’s work and perspective
  • Exceptional verbal and written English; other languages are a plus
  • Editing and proofreading skills
  • Experience in website management (CMS), or interest and ability to learn
  • Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in related fields
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Proficiency is video production and set coordination, or an interest to learn is a plus

This is a Full Time – In Studio position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience ranging from $160k to $175k excluding bonuses and other benefits. This is a good faith estimate based on the expectations as laid out in the job description.
